"Kettle of Fish" Ale: DirectionsThe ale booklet (PDF) is available. The ale booklet has the information you will need for the ale, including directions to the Friday evening Meet & Greet, and directions to the parking garage in Waltham, and the schedule for Saturday. The dancing at Lilac Sunday is planned and organized separately. A few of you (especially the dancers who we are not billeting) may wish to proceed directly to Waltham, where the Saturday dancing will take place. You should be at the gathering point (the parking facility behind the cinema at 16 Pine St, Waltham MA) at 9am. A bus will take the dancers from there to the Somerville Growing Center where we will dance in the morning, and return you to Waltham afterward. The rest of the day activities will be within walking distance of the parking area. Parking in the lot in Waltham is $2 in US bills or coins for the entire day; it is your responsibility to pay for it. To Waltham from I-95/Rte. 128A few Bostonians might like to know that it's possible to get to Waltham Center on the commuter rail (the Framingham/Worcester line) from North Station or Porter Square, or on the #70 bus from Central Square Cambridge. See MBTA.com for schedules if you need them. The station in Waltham is across the street from Waltham Common (one of the dance locations) and a short walk from the other points of interest in Waltham. Dancers coming from the north (ie, Midnight Capers) might want to proceed directly to the Somerville Growing Center (22 Vinal Ave, Somerville MA) and then drive to Waltham afterward. One drawback is that parking availability in Waltham is likely to be tight; if you are in Waltham at 9am we can nearly promise you will get a space, but if you arrive at noon it could be a challenge. Parking near the Growing Center is also limited; don't park in the spaces marked "permit only", you WILL get a ticket. It's probably best to park on Highland Ave (there are two hour spaces there that don't require a permit) and then walk down the hill to the Growing Center. Growing Center from I-93We will post non-interactive versions of those three maps on the Red Herring web site; links available soon. We're also frantically working on the ale booklet, which will be posted in full color PDF and available in black and white hard copy at the ale. Here is a map of the points of interest in Waltham. The distances are small; most attendees will be able to walk between all of these points. Waltham Points of InterestI'm also sending along some other maps that will be useful for ale attendees. These will also be in the ale booklet or available as handouts at the ale. Getting from Waltham to the Saturday evening dinner:Waltham to the Arlington Senior CenterGetting away from Lilac Sunday after it's all over. The first one is the simple but long route. The second is a bit harder to follow but will be a quicker trip to the places most dancers want to go. Lilac Sunday to I-95 (longer but simpler) Lilac Sunday to Boston (shorter but harder to follow)Getting from Lilac Sunday to Doyle's:Arboretum to Doyle's CaféGetting from Doyle's to the afterparty:Doyle's Café to the Ale Afterparty Jeff Bigler (cell): (781) 883-2678 |
